Reda’s Cup Runneth Over

Posted by Salman

Giovanni Luigi Reda recently moved in across the hall from us. Not only has he provided hours of comic relief to our lives in the past several weeks, but he’s greatly reduced our daily coffee expense. Recognize this cup? It was featured in Reda’s video part this past weekend on The Berrics. I figured since he’s plotting to steal my SOTY trophy, that I’d strike first! Coffee at Reda’s 8am sharp. Mug not included.

Baja California Part 1

Posted by Salman

Below is a photo essay of a 1 day trip I recently took with my good friends Adam Harteau and Ruben Frausto to Baja.

Contemplating dropping into this bowl in Ensenada.

Ruben Frausto getting hot with a tailslide on this mini ramp in the projects.

Adam and Ruben sample the local fare at a taco stand in Ensenada.

We spotted this snake in the middle of the road.

Agitated, coiled and ready to strike.

This is the view from the front porch of the house we stayed in.

Adam stakes his claim on some acreage to build his shipping container dream home.

Ruben shows Adam the promise land.

Sample of the plant life in Baja.

Adam prays for surf.

Adam requests another shot of Cazadores.

Random rock formation.

These are the trucks of two separate groups of mussel farmers.

Fernando makes us some instant coffee.

Golf Greats Gary McCord and Ian Baker-Finch

Posted by Salman

Image: Price Latimer Agah.

While visiting with our family recently in Palm Springs we had the opportunity to hang out with Gary McCord and Ian Baker-Finch. Considering I’ve not yet played a single game of golf, I decided against burdening these guys on the green with my lack luster skills. While eating dinner the night before the thought did cross my mind as I got to witness Gary light up the night while discussing his dream cruise to Somalia. If you’re into golf its no doubt you know who these guys are. If you are not check them out as they analyze the game and give their commentary about golf and it’s players on CBS.

Jean-Yves Thibaudet Plays Gershwin

Posted by Salman

Tonight we went out with our dear friend Mimi and watched Jean-Yves Thibaudet play with the LA Philharmonic Orchestra at the Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. It was a fabulous performance. There are three more nights of performances by Thibaudet. A must see if you are in LA.

The pipe organ, we’ve yet to hear.

Marcuson Tree Management Experience

Posted by Salman

On February 4, 2008 I spent half the day with Josh, Neil and Jose while Marcuson Tree Management manicured a tree for a client in Los Angeles. Besides documenting the process my actual job was to stack all the cut branches out in the driveway where they would meet their destiny with the chipper. Josh is a certified and highly skilled Arborist with a license to wield a chainsaw, a master at his craft. It’s no wonder then that UCLA is one of his best clients. It’s hard, but rewarding work and the pictures tell the story. According to Josh he had views of downtown LA, Hollywood and the coastline. It sure was a clear and beautiful day.
